Choose 1X NEO if the goal is an integrated household assistant and you accept preorder timing, a $20,000 ownership price or $499 monthly plan, and optional human-in-the-loop Expert Mode while autonomy develops. Choose Unitree G1, usually an EDU configuration, if the goal is robotics research and your team will build the perception, control, safety, and task software. Similar budgets do not make these interchangeable products.

Decision analysis

NEO and G1 sell different layers of the robotics stack.

NEO bundles the robot body with household task software, automatic charging, a mobile interface, continued AI updates, and optional Expert Mode. The buyer is paying for a managed home outcome, even though early capability may still need assistance and improve over time.

G1 supplies a capable humanoid body and, in EDU configurations, a development environment. The research team remains responsible for creating or integrating the task intelligence, autonomy, safeguards, and support process. That can provide more control, but it is not the same product experience.

NEO has the stronger home specification; G1 has the clearer research specification.

NEO lists up to four hours of runtime, an 18 lb arm payload, self-charging, a soft body, household task scheduling, and hands designed for manipulation. Those specifications align directly with use in spaces built for people.

G1 lists a depth camera, 3D LiDAR, removable battery, about two hours of runtime, and EDU options for more joints, computing, hands, and developer access. Those specifications are easier to integrate into a controlled research plan, but Unitree does not claim a complete home-task service.

The ownership decision includes service dependence and privacy control.

NEO can use connected AI and a scheduled remote 1X expert for supported tasks. 1X says the owner must schedule or accept Expert Mode and receives a visible indicator when it is active. A household should define private rooms, private times, and who can authorize that access.

G1 gives a development team more responsibility for its own network, credentials, sensor data, recording, and remote-control paths. That can reduce dependence on a consumer service, but only if the operator builds and maintains the security and governance that the project requires.
