01 / The opportunity
Why might someone buy this?
Pay for easier placement and less wasted fitting effort, if demonstrated. A $12.99 six-pack is the strongest price baseline: a two-film kit at $14 needs a convincing improvement, not a nicer envelope.
Who might need it?
- Standard Eilik owners who already want a sacrificial face film.
- People willing to leave the rim uncovered for simpler fitting.
- Not damaged-display repair, impact protection or universal robot use.
The task is applying an optional film neatly, not repairing a display. Owners happy with an existing film need no replacement product.
A smaller outline sacrifices coverage. It has value only if it preserves the expression window and improves application or retention.
No custom DIY fitting aid was verified. Split backing and handling tabs are our proposal, not an observed owner-built solution.
02 / Existing solutions
How owners handle it today.
| Current solution | What it does | What remains |
|---|---|---|
| Lamshaw full-coverage six-pack ↗ | Ready-cut TPU films with peel-off layers and fitting guidance; positive feedback shows this approach can satisfy an owner. | Dated complaints raise fit and wear questions. ClearInset must beat a freshly purchased pack, not an assumed faulty version. |
| Blueshaweu six-film kit with tools ↗ | Another listed kit bundles films and application tools. A cloth and scraper are already competitive basics. | Its edge-to-edge format is a baseline to test. No comparative performance was verified, so it cannot be assumed worse. |
What a better product would need to do
- Measure curvature and the complete expression window; the inset boundary must not crop displayed content. Ignore generic seller dimensions for fabrication.
- Show the uncovered rim before purchase. Keep the film on one surface, away from shell seams and moving parts.
- Split backing keeps most adhesive covered during initial alignment. Remove handling tabs afterward; no permanent tab or hard frame remains.
- Verify adhesive and removal on the actual face finish. A general polycarbonate specification does not identify the front cover’s coating.
- Check display appearance and normal operation. No touchscreen, hardness or drop-protection claim is made.
03 / Research evidence
How strong is the evidence?
Opportunity type: Niche accessory improvement
Republished buyer feedback includes short life on December 4, 2025, curve-related adhesion difficulty on March 30, 2024, and positive fit on August 28, 2025. These are dated accounts, not a widespread present-day defect. A changed adhesive or product revision has not been ruled out.
Third-party protective films are currently listed for standard Eilik. Buyer experiences are mixed and dated. A live listing does not verify unchanged construction or today's fitting performance.
A reduced outline may avoid the steepest curvature and make fitting less demanding. This is a geometric hypothesis, not a diagnosis for every failed film.
Face surface/coating, usable inset boundary, revision variation, adhesive compatibility, optical effects, retained coverage, durability and delivered-price preference.

04 / Product design
How the product could work.
- A · Handling layerDisposable alignment support, peeled away after placement. No permanent frame.
- B · Inset filmClear soft film with a measured reduced outline. Optical and adhesive properties need selection tests.
- C · Split backingTwo release sections expose a smaller starting area first. No wet installation or stretching proposed.

- B · Inset filmClear soft film with a measured reduced outline. Optical and adhesive properties need selection tests.
- C · Split backingTwo release sections expose a smaller starting area first. No wet installation or stretching proposed.
- Define a central film boundary from one measured face revision. Leave the steep outer curvature uncovered while preserving the expression window.
- Use the disposable tabs to align. Peel the smaller backing section, establish the starting area, then remove the remaining backing while gently laying the film.
- Lift away the top handling layer. Release fitting and removal instructions only after the actual finish passes compatibility tests.
Directions worth considering
Inset film with split backing — recommended
Benefit: Avoids the outermost curvature and separates alignment from laying down the rest.
Tradeoff: Exposes the rim and includes fewer films than the cheap baseline. Remaining curvature may still cause lift.
Preformed full-coverage film
Benefit: Could retain coverage by matching the measured three-dimensional surface.
Tradeoff: Forming, lamination and repeatable optical quality need more supplier development and tooling.
Application carrier for existing films
Benefit: Keeps the low-cost film and focuses on placement.
Tradeoff: Cannot cure persistent shape mismatch or weak adhesive. A loose guide may add little; avoid a clamp on the moving head.
Our recommendation: Start with inset outline and split-backing samples, without a rigid jig. Stop if correct application of the current six-pack works equally well or the uncovered area makes owners reject the trade-off.
Build the first version
Two die-cut clear films, each with two-part release backing and a removable top handling layer/tabs; soft applicator and dry cloth. One measured Eilik face revision first. No head clamp, shell opening, liquid installation kit or electronics. The owner supplies the robot.
Materials and production options
- Screen-protection-grade clear TPU is a candidate, not a validated formulation. Compare clarity, wet-out, yellowing and residue on a matching coated surface.
- Plotter-cut or die-cut film, removable PET handling carrier and silicone-coated split liner. Prototype kiss-cuts must not score the protective film.
- Soft applicator, dry lint-free cloth and flat envelope. Obtain converting and pack-out quotes; the first version needs no injection mold.
Prototype checks
- Measure consented standard Eilik units, including Blue/Pink and identifiable revisions. Use original drawings for publication.
- Try several outlines on inert matching curved samples. Establish adhesive/removal compatibility on the same finish first; generic plastic is not a coating substitute.
- Then compare fresh current films and prototype outlines on powered-off consented robots. Balance fitting order; record usable applications, attempts, bubbles, lift and visible coverage.
- Inspect after proposed 24-hour and seven-day intervals, followed by longer wear if promising. Check appearance, operation and removal. These are experiment choices, not a durability standard.
05 / Business assumptions
Could this support a business?
A low-ticket accessory with a demanding baseline: the competing pack contains more films at a similar listed price. Tooling may be modest, but shipping, packing, support and replacements could dominate. A repeatable fitting improvement and viable delivered price must both survive testing.
Price to test
$14 USD for two films and tools, plus delivery, is a proposed question. Compare complete delivered cost with the listed $12.99 six-pack. No willingness to pay measured.
Costs still to verify
No supplier quote or dependable unit-cost estimate is available. Request material, cutting, liner/carrier, assembly, reject-rate and packing quotes at sample and small-batch quantities. Add fees, shipping, replacements, returns and acquisition before assessing margin. No profit claim is supported.
Where the first customers might come from
Eilik owners already considering films are the first audience. Publish a useful installation comparison and model-specific care guide, showing the uncovered rim and competing pack openly. Community demonstrations need permission; no traffic, partnership or conversion rate is established.
06 / Next experiment
What should a builder test first?
The first decisive test: Map the face curvature and expression window, then compare standard coverage and several inset outlines on a matching surface coupon. Reject outlines crossing displayed content or still lifting. After finish compatibility is established, compare fitting on consented powered-off robots with a current six-pack.
Next validation steps
- First settle the coverage/curvature trade-off on matching surface samples and consented hardware.
- A proposed five-owner exploratory comparison records attempts, errors and preferences against current films. That is a pilot choice, not a demand estimate or universal threshold.
- Then show the actual comparison and exposed rim to relevant owners with the concept page. Ask about coverage and complete price. Waitlist answers are stated interest; no outreach or collection performed for this report.
What would make us drop this idea?
- No outline preserves the expression window while improving fitting or retention.
- A current six-pack performs equally well in the same comparison.
- Acceptable clarity and safe removal cannot be established on the actual finish.
- Owners prefer full coverage or reject the complete price and smaller pack.
Practical risks to check before going further
- The expression window may extend too far into the curvature for a worthwhile inset boundary. A smaller film can still lift.
- Adhesive or removal could mark the finish. Haze, glare and a visible border may outweigh the benefit.
- Current films may already work with correct application or revised adhesive. Dated negative feedback is not today's failure rate.
- Delivery and replacements may make two films poor value. Small removable liners require appropriate packaging and age guidance.
