A supported operating system is only the first check.

TangibleFuture lists iOS 17 or later and Android 12 or later. Its recommended iPhones start with the iPhone 12 family and extend to newer models. For Android, it recommends devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ or comparable higher performance. The company says less powerful phones may still install the app, but demanding operations may lag. It does not recommend flip phones or tablets for the best experience.

The phone supplies LOOI's screen, cameras, microphones, network connection, and much of its computing experience. A phone that meets the OS requirement can still be a poor dedicated robot host if its battery is weak, its case prevents stable attachment, or you need to take it away from the desk throughout the day.

Run this six-part check on the exact phone you plan to use.

Start with the device that will actually remain on LOOI. An iPhone or Android family name is not enough: the installed OS, Android processor, case, charging hardware, and daily availability all matter. The official LOOI app is available for both platforms and is listed as free to download.

• Record the exact model and installed OS version. Compare them with the current manufacturer compatibility table.
• On Android, confirm the processor and treat the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ recommendation as a performance target, not a promise that every other chip will fail.
• Find the official LOOI app for your platform and check that your particular device can install it before buying the robot.
• Check the phone's battery condition, charging support, and whether a case or camera bump may interfere with secure alignment.

Decision 03 / physical fit

Attachment and charging are separate compatibility questions.

The product page says iPhone 12 and later can use MagSafe attachment and wireless charging. For phones without built-in magnetic attachment, LOOI includes a docking ring. The ring addresses attachment; it does not add wireless charging to a phone that lacks that hardware. TangibleFuture specifies a 9 V / 2 A charging input for the base and up to 10 W wireless output to the phone.

Confirm whether your planned phone supports wireless charging, where its charging coil sits, and whether its case changes the magnetic hold or alignment. Check the exact package contents and power adapter at checkout rather than assuming a suitable wall adapter is included. Once the product arrives, test balance, camera clearance, charging, and movement on a clear, low-risk desk before relying on edge sensing.

• Built-in MagSafe phone: inspect case thickness and confirm a stable hold and charge indication.
• Phone using the included ring: plan where the ring will sit and verify charging-coil alignment separately.
• Phone without wireless charging: treat LOOI's wireless output as unavailable for that phone and plan its separate charging needs.

Decision 04 / budget

Calculate the system price, not just the robot price.

LOOI's official US product feed listed both Solo colors at $239 on September 26, 2026. That is the robot-base price, not the price of a complete setup for someone without a compatible phone. The app is listed as free to download. No required app subscription is stated in the product materials reviewed for this guide, but that does not guarantee every future service will remain free.

Use this formula: LOOI base + phone you must acquire + any required adapter, case, or accessory + shipping + tax or import charges. A phone you already own has no new purchase price, but dedicating it to LOOI can mean losing its other use or eventually replacing its battery.

Decision 05 / checkout

Include delivery, returns, and warranty in the purchase decision.

TangibleFuture's shipping policy says orders of at least $219 qualify for free standard shipping where available, so a $239 Solo order meets the stated threshold. It also says shipping charges appear at checkout, some areas can incur additional charges, express shipping costs extra, and international buyers outside the US may owe import taxes or duties. Use the final checkout total for your destination rather than assuming the US base price is your delivered price.

The current return policy gives a seven-day request window after receipt, subject to its conditions, and generally makes customers responsible for return shipping unless the refund is due to a performance fault. The manufacturer states a one-year warranty for manufacturing defects. Check these terms for your location before purchasing a separate phone just for LOOI.

Decision 06 / ongoing use

A dedicated phone also has a software and privacy cost.

The LOOI app uses the host phone's permissions and connected services. TangibleFuture's August 2026 privacy policy says raw voice input for AI interactions is sent to a contracted cloud AI provider for processing, while conversation history and LOOI Memory are stored in its cloud environment. An optional Deep Visual Understanding setting can send individual image frames to a cloud provider when enabled. Those details are more useful for a purchase decision than the product page's broad privacy slogans.

A spare phone should remain supported, updated, charged, and attached when you want the robot available. If it contains personal photos, accounts, messages, or work data, decide whether a separate account and tighter app permissions make more sense before setup. Review what will happen if the phone is lost, replaced, or no longer receives OS updates.

When does LOOI make financial sense?

LOOI is easiest to justify when you already have a recommended, reliable phone that can stay on the desk. It becomes a more expensive proposition when you must buy a phone or replace a weak battery to use the $239 base. The correct comparison is between complete working setups, not robot-only sticker prices.

If you need to keep using your only compatible phone throughout the day, price that inconvenience honestly. If you want a self-contained desk companion, compare LOOI's full system cost and phone dependence with EMO or Eilik. If you want the larger phone-screen face and already have a suitable spare, LOOI's reuse of that hardware is its clearest advantage.
