Research verdict
An inventive way to reuse a phone, provided compatibility is checked first.
LOOI uses a compatible smartphone for the face, camera, microphone, display, and much of the computing experience, while the robotic base provides wheels, edge sensing, gestures, and wireless charging. It is visually engaging, but compatibility and cloud-connected AI matter more than the base alone.
LOOI's strongest idea is also its biggest constraint: the phone is a required part of the robot. Buyers with a supported spare phone may get a lively desk companion and charger for $239. Buyers who need to purchase a modern phone for it should compare the complete cost with self-contained robots such as EMO or Eilik.
Best fit
- People with a compatible spare phone who want a visual AI desk companion
- Buyers who like the combination of motion, reminders, charging, and animated personality
- Desks with enough clear space for a small wheeled base and dependable edge sensing
Probably not for
- Anyone expecting a complete robot that works without a compatible smartphone
- People who want offline-first conversation with minimal cloud processing
- Owners of flip phones, tablets, or unsupported phones and cases
Before you buy
Quick answers about LOOI.
What should I check before buying a phone for LOOI?
Check three things separately: the app and operating system, the phone's processing performance, and physical attachment and charging. The current official table recommends iPhone 12 and newer on iOS 17+, or Android 12+ with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ class performance. A docking ring provides magnetic attachment; it does not add wireless charging to a phone that lacks it. Add any phone purchase, power adapter, shipping and tax to the base price.

LOOI Solo was listed at $239 in the US on October 6, 2026. The required smartphone is not included, so buyers without a compatible spare phone need to account for that cost.

Capabilities and limits
What can LOOI actually do?
The official product combines phone-based AI and sensing with a moving charging base, desk awareness, reminders, games, and expressive reactions.
- 01Use a compatible phone as an animated face, camera, microphone, speaker, display, and AI interface
- 02Move and turn on a desktop, track people and motion through the phone camera, and use edge detection around the surface
- 03Respond through ChatGPT- and Gemini-connected interactions, reminders, weather, games, and expressive routines
- 04Charge a compatible MagSafe phone wirelessly while attached, with an included magnetic ring for some devices
- 05Run for up to five hours of continuous use according to the current official specification
Important limitations
- A compatible smartphone is required and is not included in the $239 Solo price.
- TangibleFuture lists iOS 17 or later and Android 12 or later, recommends Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or newer, and does not recommend flip phones or tablets.
- Heavy cases, camera placement, phone size, wireless-charging alignment, and magnetic attachment can change the experience.
- Connected AI responses and memory are service-dependent, so the robot is not an offline-only companion.
Software and setup
The app and the attached phone are LOOI's brain and face.
The LOOI app supplies the character interface and connects phone sensors, AI services, memories, reminders, and base movement.
TangibleFuture lists ChatGPT and Gemini integration. The exact behavior available can change with app, model, phone, and service updates.
The current compatibility list is more important than the phone's age alone. Check the exact model and operating-system version before ordering.
Confirm the exact phone model, operating system, case, and magnetic attachment against the official compatibility guidance.
Install the LOOI app, connect the base, and grant only the camera, microphone, Bluetooth, network, and notification permissions you intend to use.
Attach and align the phone, then test charging, balance, movement, and edge detection on a clear low-risk surface.
Review cloud memory and conversation settings before enabling ongoing personalized AI features.
Projects worth exploring
- Repurpose a compatible spare phone as a dedicated desk character
- Test reminders and desk breaks as repeatable daily routines
- Compare local phone functions with interactions that require cloud AI
- Create a bounded movement area and test edge behavior while present
Privacy and connectivity
The privacy profile includes both LOOI and the phone attached to it.
LOOI can use the attached phone's camera, microphone, network, account, notifications, and cloud AI. Your phone's operating-system permissions remain part of the security boundary.
TangibleFuture says raw voice may be sent to contracted cloud AI for immediate processing, while conversation and memory data can remain in cloud storage until deleted or the account is closed.
Use a dedicated account where practical, minimize app permissions, review stored memories, and avoid aiming the attached camera into routinely private areas.

LOOI can move around, but owners who want to give it a small delivery game have no verified ready-fit cart in the sources reviewed.
The phone is LOOI's face. One September 2026 owner review says the included magnetic ring's adhesive lets go, letting the phone slide or fall. LOOI recommends trying a stronger replacement ring.
